Dear Students, Parents, and Staff:
Welcome back to another exciting and fun-filled school year.
I am excited and honored to be the new Assistant Principal at Hmong International Academy. I have worked in education for the past 15 years, having been a special education paraprofessional, classroom teacher, an instructional coach (mentor and master teacher), and administrator. Working with children is my passion and it inspires me to continue learning and challenging myself personally and professionally.
At Hmong International Academy, we take pride in providing top-notch learning experiences for all children. Our classrooms provide a warm, caring environment that supports children socially and emotionally while teaching them the value of honesty, hard working, perseverance, and high academic achievement. We are committed to providing a well-rounded educational foundation that prepares culturally competent students for success in the 21st Century environment and promoting academic growth and achievement by engaging learners in a relevant and rigorous curriculum so that they are prepared and ready to compete in today’s global society.
As I heard Principal Vang once said, and I too believe in, “it is important that we remember that, we, the school, is the ‘unit of change’ in the system. How great Hmong International Academy will be is in our hands, and with the current staff and students that we have, we possess the knowledge and power to make it what we want! The experts are at HIA today”.
I am honored to be a part of Hmong International Academy and look forward to working with such a dedicated and positive group of teachers, staff, students, and families. Thank you for your warm greetings, smiles, invites, and conversations so far. I will need your support in sharing with me ideas on how we can improve student growth and our school, as I am new and still learning about all the exciting things happening at our school.
Similarly to Principal Vang, I also believe firmly in servant leadership and am opened to more ideas for improving myself and our collaborative work. I believe in teamwork and that team work does matter. Students matter because teachers, parents, and the community matter. As we had always said in Hmong, a cooking tripod needs three legs. A school cannot function without having parents, school staff, and the community working together.
Please feel free to communicate any concerns and/or celebrations you may have to share. I look forward to working collaboratively with all of you to help maintain the high standard of student success that Hmong International Academy is known for.
